Behind the Scenes of #SDlifechanging

Sep 12, 2018 - Bernadine Locsin

Sure you’ve heard of San Diego: Life. Changing. – the brand that shows what it’s like to live and work in San Diego and features the smart, cool companies we have here. But you probably don’t know much about the company behind #SDlifechanging. Meet San Diego Regional EDC – a nonprofit working to tell San Diego’s story to the rest of the world through the SDLC campaign and many other avenues, like media stories, business support, foreign delegations, and much more.

EDC launched San Diego: Life. Changing. last year at a Padres game, as a fresh take on communicating San Diego’s authentic story – by telling real stories of San Diegans who are quite literally changing the world and having a really good time doing it (because they chose to live in San Diego). From breweries to biotech, San Diego is home to hundreds of mission-driven companies hoping to make a positive impact on the rest of the world.

The campaign also works to talk about our strengths and eliminate some of the misconceptions about San Diego, like the stigma that there aren’t many jobs here. Sure, we’re not necessarily a headquarters town, but many large corporations have satellite offices in San Diego, like Amazon (that are hiring!). We also have many lesser known tech and life sciences companies and startups whose work impacts our everyday lives – like Viasat, Qualcomm, and LunaDNA.

With other initiatives like Inclusive Growth and Innovate78, plus World Trade Center San Diego as its international side of the house, our small but mighty team of 22 stays pretty busy Monday through Friday. We do, however, always seem to find time to have a little fun. Check out this week’s special edition of #TakeoverTuesday to see a day in the life at EDC.

Be sure to follow us on Instagram at @SDlifechanging and tune in every Tuesday to see what it’s like to work at some of San Diego’s coolest companies.
